John Hammond
I accepted the Lord at age 12 at a camp meeting and attended Bradford Baptist Church until 1979 when I married my wife, Carol, and moved to Elmira. We have one son, Matthew, a daughter-in-law Valerie, and grandson, Bryce who live in the area and are serving the Lord. In 2012 I retired after 40 years with Corning, Inc.
My wife and I have been members of Maranatha and have served at Maranatha since 1981. I have worked on the Building & Grounds Committee, served as a Deacon, and assisted with the ushers. I also was a member of the team that went on a missions trip to El Salvador in 2014. Currently I am serving as leader of the Seniors Ministry.
Throughout our lives our family has experienced God’s many workings and blessing in our lives. I look forward to serving God as an Elder here at Maranatha.

Dave Hursh

My name is Dave Hursh and I am proud to call Maranatha Bible Chapel my church home. I work for Corning Inc. as a coordinator of special projects in the Business Services Division. I am a Corning East graduate and have degrees from Penn State and Temple University.

I grew up in the Methodist church where I heard the message of the gospel, which unfortunately didn’t take. I became one of the many youth who end up leaving the church upon gaining independence. Thanks to the help and testimony of a young lady I was dating, I not only came back to the church but came to Christ as well. Thankfully, God has continued to reveal Himself to me in many mysterious and wonderful ways. I married that young lady a couple of years later.

Barbara and I were married in 1993. We live in East Corning with our three sons: Allen, Daniel and Jack. Outside of church we keep busy in a myriad of sports and school activities. Since joining Maranatha I have served in Kidztown and as a Deacon. Both, as well as my time as an Elder, have been a blessing to me.

Roger Johnson

I was saved in 1969 at Maranatha Bible Chapel. My wife, Karon was saved in 1958 at Youth For Christ. One more year and my wife and I will celebrate 100 years of combined service for Jesus. I have been so blessed here at Maranatha serving as an Elder, on the Missions Team and on the Building and Grounds Team. God has many plans for Maranatha and I am proud of our church.

John Renz
I became a member of the body of Jesus Christ in 1974 and was baptized in San Francisco Bay. I have been the husband of Jennifer since 1976. God has blessed us with a wonderful marriage built on following Jesus and two children who both love Jesus: Megan (and grandfather of her and her husband Dave’s 4 kids) and father of Mark (and grandfather of his and his wife Kendra’s son). Jennifer and I have attended Maranatha for 35 years and I have been involved in a variety of ministries of the church, including teaching, kids, deacon, facilities planning and leading the development of a plan that the Church approved to build the Family Life Center. I am also an usher.

We moved to Elmira in 1981.

In the community, I have worked in senior management positions in healthcare for 30 years for St. Joseph’s Hospital, Creative Orthotics and Prosthetics and Hanger. I have been a board member for the local non-profit tennis organization that provides lessons and tennis events throughout the year.

I am one of the few men at MBC who do not hunt, unless you’re my opponent on a tennis court, then I am out to get you!

Jim Russell

I came to believe in Jesus when I was watching Billy Graham crusade on TV; I was 18. I married Mary Jane in 1979 and we were blessed with two children: Chris and Stephanie.

I have attended Maranatha for 26 years. During this time I have been an Elder prior to this year and have been very involved in the Building and Grounds ministry, including the completion of the Family Life Center.

I grew up in Elmira and worked at the Water Board for 37 1/2 years before I retired. When I was younger, I was involved with several church sport teams.

My hobbies include shuffleboard and I recently won a silver medal at the 2017 senior games!

Gale Stermer
My name is Gale Stermer and I have been married to K.C. since 1995. We have a son Jacob and a daughter Rachel. We live in Big Flats and I work at Guthrie Healthcare as the Director of Clinical Data Reporting.

I was saved in 1994 and was baptized in Waneta Lake that same year at family camp. My family and I, K.C., Jacob and Rachel have been attending Maranatha Bible Chapel since December of 1998. Each of us has been serving in some capacity since then. I have lead an early morning Bible study (5:30 AM), taught Sunday school for several years, have helped in the nursery, Pioneer Club, Kidztown and other areas as needed.

It has been a blessing to serve as an elder at MBC. Each of the men I have served with over the years has contributed in some way to my growth, both personally and as a Christian. God has truly blessed us as a church family. Thank you for all of your prayers over the years.
